Certain Chinese words have the same pronunciation, despite being completely different characters and of them may seem confusing. But fear not! As we will be breaking down and explaining some of these common Chinese homophones (同音字) to you today!

Example: 虽然很多年过去了,我还记得老师的金玉良言。
Translation: Even though years have passed, I still remember my teacher’s advice to me.
2. 既:既然
Definition: since
Example: 既然你想参加这个活动,你就应该赶紧报名。
Translation: Since you want to participate in this event, you should sign up for it early.
3. 计:计划
Definition: plan
Example: 爸爸计划在来临的周末带我们去动物园。
Translation: Dad planned to bring us to the zoo this weekend.
4. 继:继续 Definition: continue
xample: 只要你继续努力,总有一天会成功的。
Translation: As long as you continue to work hard, you will definitely succeed one day.

Example: 上课时,我发现自己忘了带课本。
Translation: During class, I realised I had forgotten to bring my textbook.
2. 代:代替
Definition: to replace
Example: 由于丽文生病了,因此老师要我代替她上台表演。
Translation: The teacher asked me to perform on stage in place of Li Wen, as she has fallen sick. 待:等待
Definition: to wait Example: 表演即将开始,请大家耐心等待。
Translation: The performance will begin shortly, please wait patiently. 戴:戴帽子
Definition: to wear/put on Example: 哥哥很喜欢戴帽子,每次出国都会买一个回来。
Translation: Brother likes wearing a cap, he will always buy one home whenever he travels overseas.
