P5 Mathematics March Holiday Programme

This March Holiday Programme provides Primary 5 students with focused consolidation of key MOE Mathematics topics introduced at upper primary level. Structured as a 5-lesson series, the programme strengthens fraction mastery, algebraic reasoning, and model-based problem-solving skills. Each lesson integrates syllabus-based concepts with systematic strategies to help students tackle multi-step word problems confidently and accurately.

Lesson 1 – Equating Numerators / Equating Denominators / Substitution in Fraction of Fraction

Students deepen their mastery of Fractions by applying structured techniques such as equating numerators, equating denominators, and substitution in complex fraction-of-fraction scenarios. Emphasis is placed on understanding part-whole relationships, simplifying expressions accurately, and presenting clear step-by-step working — essential for higher-order fraction word problems.

Lesson 2 – BCA unchanged variables

This lesson focuses on Before–Change–After (BCA) problems involving unchanged variables. Students learn to identify fixed quantities within word problems and represent relationships clearly using model drawing or structured equations. Emphasis is placed on logical reasoning and translating problem statements accurately into mathematical form.

Lesson 3 – BCA Difference at the Start / Simultaneous and Substittion in BCA

Students tackle more advanced BCA scenarios involving difference at the start and simultaneous reasoning with substitution. The session trains students to analyse layered information carefully, represent relationships systematically, and solve multi-step problems with precision and clarity.

Lesson 4 – Patterns

This lesson consolidates understanding of Number and Figure Patterns. Students learn to identify relationships within sequences, determine governing rules, and apply logical reasoning to extend or generalise patterns. Focus is placed on systematic observation and clear explanation of pattern rules in written solutions.

Lesson 5 – Area and Perimeter

The programme concludes with consolidation of Area and Perimeter, including composite figures within Primary 5 syllabus scope. Students revise formulas, interpret diagrams accurately, and solve multi-step geometry problems. Emphasis is placed on distinguishing between area and perimeter, correct unit usage, and structured working presentation.
